possum problem

                        Possum problem.

Where do possums live and what do they eat?

Possums are pests that live in the forest. When possums live in the forest they eat our new growth leaves and also they flower and fruit and other thing they eat is eggs. They are destroying our forest.

How do possums change our forest?
When they eat our new growth leaves the trees go extinct also when the native birds eggs  the native birds become extinct. When possums eat our native creatures the reduced food supply can pollinate. And the last thing they devour is flowers and fruit. Less food for native creatures.

The adult tuna swim thousands of kilometres to lay their eggs in the warmer waters of the south pacific, and then they they.

What information in the text helped you make that prediction?

  •                        Kaitiaki is a New
  •                       Zealand Maori term
  •                       Used for the concept

  • The stream is very polluted,
  • Pataka is talking to people about
  • The importance of the stream and
  • How it could be made healthy again
  • Recently he spoke to a group of
  • Local students.

What I already know about this?

About 30 years ago people came to the
Mangapouri stream to catch during tuna heke, after they were caught the tuna were put in to large strong box and put it to the stream.

Kaitiaki of the     stream

What I know is that from early times,Maori lived on the  banks of the mangapouri stream. The stream was clean and fresh but there was not enough food for the maori to eat.

3 marae grew beside the stream, along with the township of otaki, and a number of schools.
